On the Road - Day 6, Did somebody say boat ride?

Lynn and Edna Henke

We thought when we left Ivins that we would miss saying good-bye to our good friends, Lynn and Edna. What a wonderful treat it was for us when they delayed their return to Ivins just long enough for us to meet up with them in Everett, Washington. We have known them since we moved to Ivins, their children were our babysitters, and we have served with them in church callings. Rick was a counselor to Lynn when he was our Bishop and I was Edna's counselor when she was Relief Society President. We have always enjoyed their company. We had a wonderful breakfast with them and an even better visit. It is good friends like these that have made our move a little hard to do.

The terminal for the Alaska Marine Highway ferries. Bellingham, Washington

Our motor vessel, the Malaspina. We learned after calling this a ship for three days, that it is a motor vessel. Alaska has the only marine highway in the nation. There are a number of ferries that make the trip up and down the inside passage. It is used by tourists, business people, and the citizens in general to get where they need to go. We also saw high school students on it that were headed somewhere for a volleyball competion. This picture was taken just before we drove our vehicle on.

Before we could even get on the ferry we waited in this line for our turn. We were told to be at the terminal at 3:00 p.m. We were there on time and waited until 6:00 p.m. before we were given the signal to drive on. That was two bathroom breaks and a whole lot of sitting and waiting with nothing much to do. Next time (if there ever is one), we will know that we can be a little late and still make it.
