On the Road - Day 5, Driving through Oregon and Washington

We spent the night at Florence, Oregon. We found the Comfort Inn has a great continental breakfast with waffles, biscuits and sausage gravy, and the usual pastries, cold cereal, toast, juice, etc...Oh, and hot chocolate which we have really enjoyed on this "great adventure". We have been lucky enough to find one at each town we have stayed in. The one in Florence did not fail us and on top of that it had a washer and dryer where we were able to get some much needed wash done.

We did find it interesting that in this little tourist town on the coast of Oregon, that if you are in there in the off season the restaurants are closed up by 7:00 p.m. It took a little driving around but we finally found a small cafe and bar open and so we went in for dinner. It was a cozy little place and seemed to be a place that a lot of locals hang out, that is if there any locals that are out and about after 7:00 p.m.

We were excited about the drive up the Oregon coast and were looking forward to stopping at some of the lighthouses on the way. Too bad it rained all day, it was foggy and although we were close to the beach, the tall trees and dunes made it so we couldn't see too much. We did stop at the one lighthouse that was still open, most were closed for the season or had shorter hours. It was nice to get out and walk around a little even though it was rainy.

After trying a few times to get out at the beaches, we gave up and drove inland and decided to try and make it all the way to Seattle, which we did and a little beyond. We did get to stop and the Space Needle and ride the elevator all the way to the observation deck. Even though it was dark it was still a lot of fun to look out at all the lights.

Were were just waiting to get on the elevators when one of the staff walked up to Bryan and asked him if he was missing his wallet. Lo and behold, he was! She had his wallet in her hand. Apparently someone found it out on the observation deck and decided to turn it in. Thankfully everything was still in it! There are still honest people out there! It would have been a disaster if we got down the road before he found it missing since is passport card was in there. I don't know what we would have done when we got to the Canadian border and he didn't have it. Heavenly Father does answer our prayers, even when we say a quick one in the morning before we start the day!
