On the Road - Day 1

We shut the door for the last time in Ivins and headed out on our "great adventure". We loaded up the 4 runner with all that we hoped we needed for our first couple of months in Alaska. We only had to go as far as Los Angeles today so we decided that a nice breakfast with those still in the St. George area would be a nice way to start our trip. It was fun to be with all of them for a last meal. We said a teary good-bye at IHOP and then we were on the road. Spencer came with us and drove the 4 runner with Bryan and Rick and I went in the Suburban. We had a pretty uneventful trip until we were just across the state line from Nevada and then Wham! we were hit with traffic! How could I have forgotten Sharon's warnings about traveling to California after a weekend? We were bumper to bumper until after Barstow going sometimes just 5 miles an hour. We added two hours to our trip!

We finally pulled into Buena Vista at about 7:00 pm. Fortunately we found a Hampton Inn right away and after a quick check in we were off to Fright Night at Knott'sberry Farm. We had a good time hanging out with all the ghouls, goblins, creepy people, and Spencer and Bryan! The rides were all decked out in their Halloween finest. It was fun, but Rick and I realized that we just aren't as limber as we used to be and certainly not able to enjoy midnight rides like we once might have. We did let the boys talk us into going on the Ghost Rider (wooden roller coaster). We stood in line for about an hour for the excitement of being jerked around for about 3 minutes. But we did it! We stayed at the park until it closed a 1:00 am.

It was fun to have Spencer with us. I am glad that he came.
